Sixth Cohort of Future Lawyers Graduate from Legal Clinic

02/07/2007Tashkent city, 30 June -- Law Clinic under the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in Tashkent (UWED) held the sixth annual graduation ceremony. Knowledge that clinicians have gained during three years in Law clinic should serve the goal of humanism and protection of human rights. Lawyers plays an important role in society, particularly in transition-economy countries and that is why formation of future lawyers with practical skills will support the development of the whole law system in our country ,- noted the head of Law clinic, Delegate of Lower Chamber of Oliy Majlis Ziyodulla Ubaydullaev.
Summing up the work with graduating clinicians, one can make sure, that the Law Clinic is in a way laboratory, where students perform researches in legislation, in theory of civil process, obtaining skills of scientific analysis. The Clinic helps students to obtain not only theoretical, but also practical skills, namely: ability to carry on negotiations, defend their clients' interests in courts, ability to think analytically and use the legislation in real, concrete situations. All those skills are greatly needed to become a professional lawyer.
Graduates shared their feelings about the years spent in the Clinic:
Rustam Tursunov: “Legal clinic developed in me professional skills of a lawyer, taught me to listen to people, to hear what they feel. I'm sure that these skills and practical knowledge will help me in my career.”
Natalya Cherkashina: “In Legal clinic I’ve got a lot of practice. At University we have theory, in Legal Clinic we have a real, vital practice, we were able to see how the real mechanism works. Legal Clinic almost became our second home.”
Jamila Nurjanova, National University of Uzbekistan: “It is great that Legal Clinic also welcomes students from other law schools, and I am one of such graduates. Legal Clinic gives us both practical skills and theoretical knowledge.”
The Legal Clinic has been established within UNDP project “Legal Aid and Legal Literacy for Better Access to Justice”. The main objectives of the project are to improve access to justice for people who cannot afford or have limited access to legal services, such as women, children, the poor, the elderly and people with disabilities and to increase quality of legal services through training of law students.
