Legal clinic students together with legal experts and trainers conducted training on gender issues within family and housing law (touching upon domestic violence), that took place on 27 September at 16:00 at "Chupon ota" makhalla in Tashkent. This training is directed at a wide audience of different ages and is determined by the high necessity of knowledge in this sphere.

The choice of the topic in “Chupon ota” makhalla was dictated by numerous appeals to the Legal clinic and found that people have knowledge gap on legal aspects of gender equality within family and housing law, as well as legal aspects in dealing with different forms of domestic violence .

This training is also an effective way of strengthening the knowledge and skills of law students working in the Legal Clinic, nine of which were involved in preparation of the training. The training is divided into three parts and covers the following issues: international and national standards in the sphere of gender equality, special emphasis on national legislation, and the influence of local traditions and customs toward current legislation and vice versa. At the end of the training there was a possibility to ask questions. Additionally, students have prepared cases and materials concerning the issue of domestic violence.

"It is the first training on this theme conducted by law students", noted Galina Mayorova, the Legal Clinic expert, supervisor and lawyer of Tashkent City Bar Association. "During the preparation, students used not only their academic knowledge, but also their practical experience acquired during their practice in the Legal Clinic, that included training courses on gender equality".

The training was conducted within the UNDP “Legal Aid and Legal Literacy for Better Access to Justice ” project .
