From the 1990s onwards, the development of renewable energy sources, including solar energy, has received high priority in policy documents. However implementation has not matched aspirations. Given the fact that hydrocarbon reserves are not renewable and that Uzbekistan exists in a region with a substantial capacity to generate solar energy, the option of solar energy deserves serious consideration as a potential component in the national energy complex.
