National Human Development Report 2007-2008. Education in Uzbekistan: Matching Supply and Demand

This NHDR 2007-2008 focuses on education – one of the key parameters making an essence of human being and human development. Consisting of four chapters, the report analyses the general trends of human development in Uzbekistan and correlation of scholarship index with other human development indicators. The authors of the report have paid special attention to research of the state of education in Uzbekistan, comparing to the rest of the world. Communication between education and human development has also been consistently analysed and attention aimed towards the present condition of economy and social policy of the Government. read more

National Human Development Report 2006. Health for All: a Key Goal for Uzbekistan in the New Millennium

This Annual Report on Human Development in the Republic of Uzbekistan focuses on one of the key indicators which reflects the essence of human existence and development, namely, health status. The Report consists of four chapters which describe and analyze general human development trends in the Republic of Uzbekistan while pointing out how the country's health indicators and other human development indicators are interrelated. A special chapter titled Millennium Development Goals (MDG) focuses on the problems the Republic of Uzbekistan faces and on the efforts the country is making to achieve the MDG. read more

The National Human Development Report 2005, Decentralization and Human Development

The Report highlights issues that have no simple answers, thereby encouraging wide-ranging discussion. Like the previous NHDRs the present Report marks achievements for the sake of human development, unsolved problems and objectives to be pursued. The Report provides assessment of Uzbekistan's adherence to UN Millennium Declaration to eradicate poverty, establish the principles of human dignity and equality, peace, democracy and sustainable development. read more

The National Human Development Report 2000

The strengthening of human development through focusing on small and medium business development in the country is the topic of the Human Development Report 2000. The authors of the Report study problems of this type of entrepreneurship and its impact on the size and dynamics of the most important indices of human development. They propose recommendations on how to develop small enterprises that are trying to assist in taking real measures targeted at raising the standard of living. This Report, like all previous reports, is focused on individual needs and interests.read more

The National Human Development Report 1999

The selection and implementation of a comprehensive human development strategy is complicated for countries in transition. These societies, in contrast to many developing countries, have had to address the problems of collapsing educational and healthcare systems at a time when public resources are limited. Changes from planned to market economies may take place faster than corresponding changes in the attitudes and values of individuals. This in turn makes maintaining the momentum of reforms more challenging, especially when over the short-term living conditions show little or even negative growth. In the NHDR 1999 the process of human development over the past eight years is explored in more detail taking into consideration the specific development requirements and experiences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.read more
