Uzbekistan UNDAF 2005-2009 Final Evaluation report

The United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for 2005-2009 was the first common strategy of the United Nations system in Uzbekistan to assist the Government in meeting the country’s development challenges. This evaluation of the 2005-2009 UNDAF was designed to be a forward looking process to identify what can be learned from this experience that will enable the UN to more effectively harness the successor UNDAF, covering the period 2010-2015, for supporting national development goals and international commitments, such as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).read more

Policy Brief #1, 2009 - Higher Education in Uzbekistan: Structure Development and Reform Trends

This policy brief is the continuation of a series of policy papers on issues of higher education prepared in line with the UNDP National Human Development Report 2007-2008. Currently, education is becoming an important prerequisite for the introduction of new technologies in all spheres of human activity for increased competitiveness and for an improvement in living standards. This publication provides a rationale for the need to mobilize new sources of funding and considers issues of expanding the autonomy of higher education institutions and competition development. At the same time, measures are suggested to eliminate some legal constraints that restrict the creation of private institutions of higher education; recommendations are provided with the aim of reforming the enrollment mechanism of higher education institutions and expanding the competences of higher education institutions.read more
