UNDP Uzbekistan

Capacity Building for Internet Technologies Development and Promotion in Uzbekistan Phase 2
Background
Right after independence, Uzbekistan as a young nation required the rapid development of a modern information infrastructure and relevant training. Facilities and technical skills required were not available, and very limited number of government agencies and other institutions had internet access and opportunity to modernize their infrastructure. UNDP carried out a project in 2000 2005, to address these issues. Free internet access was provided to governmental agencies, educational and medical institutions (more than 1,500 computers were connected to the Internet), and over 400 civil society and educational organisations improved access to information and electronic networks through Internet access points established in many cities.
Based on the positive experiences of the previous project, UNDP has now expanded the provision of the Internet access and training programs to reach more of the society throughout the country.
