15/03/2013 : Bringing Saigas to the Big Screen
A cartoon about a saiga antelope will be premiered today. In past decades the world population of saiga antelopes declined by more than 95 percent, the highest rate of decline among mammals. The only area in Uzbekistan where saiga antelopes can come for winter is the Ustyurt plateau. The threat of their extinction was recognized by the nation in 2008, when they were included in the Red Book of the Republic of Uzbekistan as vulnerable and declining. more

For school children in Tashkent city for the best drawings on “Border Guards at Work”. Drawings submitted to the contest should demonstrate border guards staff performing their services at everyday activities. The drawings contest runs from 12 March 2013 to 12 April 2013. All school children of the age group 11-14 years old residing in Tashkent city are invited to take part. more

For professional photographers, photo journalists, and border agencies’ press services staff. The contest runs from 12 March 2013 to 12 April 2013. Photo(s) submitted to the contest should demonstrate the staff of border agencies and/or their service dogs performing their everyday activities. Captions should contain brief description like place, date of the shot and other details. more
08/03/2013 : Customs Officers are trained in Supply Chain Security
Customs inspectors from customs posts and lecturers from the Higher Military Customs Institute participated in a four-day National training on supply chain security including risk analysis. more
07/03/2013 : UNDP received a commemorative medal from the Ministry of Emergency Situations
For the past three years UNDP is working with the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) of Uzbekistan to manage disaster risks and engage communities to better respond to disasters. To commemorate this partnership the MES awarded UNDP with a commemorative medal for continuous support and contribution to disaster risk reduction work in Uzbekistan. The medal was presented by the Minister of Emergency Situations - Tursinkhan Khudaybergenov. more

25/02/2013 : Safe donor blood - an effective barrier to HIV transmission
The blood donation section of the blood transfusion center is crowded with donors, and more are waiting for their turn to donate blood. Many are newcomers, and some are “veteran” blood donors. - I have been donating blood for five years already. I remember a case when a pregnant woman underwent a car accident. She and her baby would perish if there were no blood for transfusion. I was happy to share my blood with her, and thank God, she survived and delivered her baby. Since that time she and her son visit me on the child’s birthday, and I feel blessed that was able to help two people. I continue donating so that to help more people, – says Ergash, 48-year old blood donor. more
