17/04/2013 : Learning the secrets of Uzbek craftswoman on making felt products

Zaamin district in Djizak region gathered over 20 local women residents from "Laylak Uya” village and neighboring mahallas (small local self-government units) to take part in the special trainings on producing felt products. A professional master, a member of Uzbek Craftsmen Association Mrs. Rassiya Djumanazarova shared her rich skills on making various souvenirs from ordinary sheep wool with the local villagers. more

15/04/2013 : Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS visiting Uzbekistan

The Assistant Administrator and Regional Director of the UNDP Bureau for Europe and the Commonweal of Independent States - Ms. Cihan Sultanoglu is visiting Uzbekistan. During her visit she will speak at the International Conference on ‘Modern rural housing as the most important engine of comprehensive development of associated industries and services transforming the look of rural areas and the mentality of the people’ and will visit UNDP project sites throughout Uzbekistan. more

15/04/2013 : Local budgets in Uzbekistan: Recipe for local development

“Measures to Reduce the Level of Subventions to Local Budgets: Interagency Interaction” -that is the name of the analytical report developed with support from a UNDP project on budget system reform in Uzbekistan. A subvention is a fund allocated from the central budgets to a local budget. In the case of Uzbekistan, local budgets are responsible for expenditures in key social sectors including pre-university education, public health and social protection.However, there are insufficient budget revenues in certain economically-disadvantaged provinces. How do they fill the gap between the State budget and local budgets? more

14/04/2013 : General Assembly confirms new four-year term for Helen Clark as UNDP Administrator

The United Nations General Assembly confirmed this morning the appointment by the Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, of Helen Clark as Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for a further four-year term. Helen Clark began her duties as Administrator of UNDP in April 2009. She is the first woman to lead the UN's global development network, and is also the Chair of the UN Development Group. more

Social innovation can be defined as anything from ideas to products and services that are new, meet existing needs in society, and create new relationships or collaborations between people. Social innovation is becoming increasingly important in all sectors of society, whether NGOs, social enterprises or public administration departments. This includes the work of the United Nations, where social innovation has the potential to engender more inclusive, creative or efficient development projects particularly at a community level. more
