On Monday the 24th of September, UNDP together with UN Information Office will host the first-ever online meet-up, as part of the global Social Good Summit event. The purpose of this online gathering will be to discuss how technology is helping to improve lives of people and communities. The special focus will be on youth and their role in development through digitalness. more
14/09/2012 : Acknowledging the role of private sector in sustainable development
Today Tashkent hosted the International Conference on the role of small business and private enterprises. Mr. Haoliang Xu, Deputy Regional Director for Europe and the CIS made a speech at the event and noted that from UNDP’s perspective it is particularly important that businesses from multi-national corporations, to micro, small and medium size enterprises, generate the growth that supports MDG achievement. Therefore, UNDP works alongside government partners and the private sector on inclusive growth and sustainable development. more

More than 100 rural farmers from four settlements located in the area of Baday-tugay nature reserve in Karakalpakstan received knowledge and skills that will help bring degraded land back into productive use. more

In day to day life information centers actively promote the development and implementation of information policy of khokimiyats, provision of necessary information about the activities of khokimiyats to population, formation of positive public image of khokimiyats, impartial coverage of social and economic reforms in regions, strengthening of two-way communication between khokimiyats and general public, cooperation with media and extensive media coverage by means of television, radio, press and electronic publications, as well as web-sites of information centers. more

Result-oriented budgeting is a new approach in the planning and execution of the state budget, where budget performance is assessed not in terms of its execution, but in terms of achieving ultimate goals and results - said Botir Pardaev, Head of Treasury of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan at the opening of the seminar devoted to the result-oriented budgeting. – Applying this approach not only takes into account the “where”s and “what”s to be spent on the budget funds but rather what the end result will be obtained. more

03/08/2012 : Towards securing safe donor blood - a strong barrier to HIV infection
Millions of lives are saved each year through blood transfusions. According to WHO estimates, every third person at least once in his /her lifetime needs donor blood. At the same time, the HIV/AIDS epidemic has focused particular attention on the importance of preventing transfusion-transmitted infections as up to 3% of HIV infections worldwide are transmitted through the transfusion of contaminated blood and blood products. Therefore, ensuring donor blood safety is one of the key elements in preventing the spread of many blood-transmitted infections, including HIV. In this regard, the Republic of Uzbekistan adopted a number of legislative documents on improving donor blood services. more
