02/11/2012 : UNDP and respective UN Agencies are relocating to new premises
UNDP Representative Office and respective UN Agencies (UN Resident Coordinators Office, UN Department for Safety and Security, UN Information Centre, UN Volunteers and UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia), currently located at 4 Taras Shevchenko St., Tashkent 100029 are moving to a temporary location due to pending reconstruction works of the current premises. more
01/11/2012 : Participation of local NGOs in regional development
The role of a strong civil society is enormous in securing social stability and successful development of the region. This is manifested in almost all aspects of the life of developed democratic states of the world. Today a special attention is paid to the development of civil society organizations, which is becoming one of the fundamental principles in the formation of a modern democratic society in Uzbekistan. As vivid evidence to this statement, there several laws and regulations were adopted to foster the activities of non-governmental and non-commercial organizations. more
30/10/2012 : New Dimensions of Inter-parliamentary Cooperation
To extend the dimensions of inter-parliamentary cooperation a delegation from the Republic of Uzbekistan, comprising of Legislative Chamber deputies of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, representatives from the Institute for monitoring the current legislation under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Center for enhancing lawyers' qualification under the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan, and the Independent Institute for monitoring the formation of civil society traveled to the Czech Republic to learn from the Parliament of the Czech Republic. more
25/10/2012 : The National Council of NGOs of Uzbekistan is now up and running
The "Inclusive Employment and Social Partnership" project together with the National Association of NGOs of Uzbekistan hosted a round-table on "Strengthening the Role of NGOs in the Implementation of Government Programs to Protect the Rights and Interests of Persons with Disabilities and the Development of Measures for Implementation of the Norms of International Conventions". To discuss current issues the event brought together over 40 representatives of NGOs, and government institutions, including from the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the National Centre for Human Rights and the Ministry of Justice. more
23/10/2012 : United Nations in Uzbekistan Marks the UN Day
The United Nations Office in Uzbekistan will mark the United Nations Day by hosting a press conference at the Grand Mir Hotel in Tashkent. The press conference will be hosted by Mr. Karl Kulessa, Acting UN Resident Coordinator and the Heads and/or representatives of UNAIDS, UNDP, UNESCO, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNODC, UN Volunteers, UN Women, WHO and the World Bank. The event will highlight both the work undertaken by the UN Team in Uzbekistan and its planned operations for coming years. more

Government of Uzbekistan is paying close attention to expansion of renewable energy sector. In the decree of the President of the country “On priorities of developing the industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2011-2015” renewable energy sources are given a very important role in industrial development. In the light of these trends, the UNDP project “Supporting Uzbekistan in transition to low emission development path" worked very closely with biogas technology and its application in Uzbekistan. more
16/10/2012 : Improving National Legislation to Meet International Standards and Norms
Integrating international treaties into national legislation is one of the main functions of states as of subjects of international law. It resembles a system of an institutional action for integrating international treaties into national legislation, i.e. creating the necessary legal framework for putting the international agreements to work. In addition, the system of implementation involves the creation of necessary conditions for the practical application of international agreements in the implementation of the internal and foreign policy. This allows the sovereign states to identify and retain not only their obligations under international law, but also their rights in its relations with other states and the international community as a whole. more
