01/04/2013 : Introducing water saving technology into agricultural sector of Karakalpakstan
In order to introduce water saving technologies into the agricultural sector of Karakalpakstan, the UN Joint Programme procured and transferred 6 sets of laser leveling equipment to 6 farming enterprises in Kanlikul and Shumanay districts, and organized 2-day introductory workshops and practical trainings on the use of laser leveling equipment for 78 farmers and dehkhans. Laser leveling equipment is known to help reduce the irrigation water consumption by almost 25%. more
15/02/2013 : A network of 50 rural consultants now will help local farmers
Due to the consequences of the environmental crisis in Aral Sea, including poor soil conditions, intensive desertification and land degradation, local farmers are facing challenges. Now a network of 50 rural consultants will be providing local farmers (dehkhans) continuous support in use of improved and sustainable agricultural practices. more

24/09/2012 : A network of qualified trainers in public sector of Karakalpakstan
UN Joint Programme created a network of trainers to strengthen the capacity of government officials of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The trainers will be delivering capacity-building courses for government officials on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Result-based management (RBM), monitoring and evaluation, and other topics. more
10/09/2012 : Farmers are bringing degraded land back into productive use
More than 100 rural farmers from four settlements located in the area of Baday-tugay nature reserve in Karakalpakstan received knowledge and skills that will help bring degraded land back into productive use. more

24 rural farmers are now part of a network of agriculture consultants providing consultancy services to rural population and solutions to the problems they might face in application of new agricultural practices more

Presentation of the United Nations newly launched Joint Programme “Sustaining Livelihoods Affected by the Aral Sea Disaster” was held in Nukus, Karakalpakstan. The Programme is implemented by UNDP, UNESCO, UNFPA, WHO and UNV, and funded by UN Trust Fund for Human Security. more
