05/06/2013 : EcoWeek 2013: A Healthier Environment Means a Better Future
It was in 2011 that UNDP and the UN office in Uzbekistan joined its national partners in organising the first EcoWeek, an event that commemorated World Environment Day on the 5th of June, and helped government officials, business owners and members of the public understand that they themselves can play a direct, constructive role in sustaining their nation’s environment. more
04/06/2013 : EcoWeek 2013: Witnessing Water Management in Action
In Uzbekistan’s dry Kashkadarya region, ensuring effective water management and addressing environmental problems are both crucial to agricultural development. On the 4th of July, as part of the national EcoWeek 2013 awareness-raising campaign conducted by UNDP and its national partners, a meeting was held at the Ayrum Canal that provides Kashkadarya’s Aralovul village and its surrounding farms with a constant supply of irrigation water. This vital infrastructure has been constructed by the UNDP ‘Climate Risk Management in Uzbekistan’ project. more

Civil society empowerment and engagement in decision-making is a major commitment of the United Nations Development Programme in Uzbekistan and is clearly reflected in its 5 year Country Programme Action Plan for 2010-2015. Across the globe civil society is exhibiting an energetic voice in promoting the principles of fair and equitable economic development, gender equality and human rights. It is also a cross-cutting subject integrated into several areas of UNDP’s work in any country. more

28/05/2013 : The Opening of EcoWeek 2013
On the 28th of May, the International Hotel in Tashkent hosted the EcoWeek 2013 opening ceremony, dedicated to the celebration of World Environment Day and the 25th anniversary of the State Committee for Nature Protection. The opening ceremony of the national large-scale environmental campaign was attended by representatives of ministries, departments, diplomatic corps members, representatives of international organisations accredited in Uzbekistan, artists and journalists. The event featured the presentation of initiatives undertaken by the UN and its national partners in order to achieve environmental sustainability in Uzbekistan. more
